Beside those comments, I'd also like to share a few more things about my week in Tokyo/Japan.
Firstly, I have met new Japanese friends and want to thank Tomoko, Nikki, Takako, Kei, Hiro and others (whose names I forgot, sorry) for their company, gifts and hospitality. Same goes for Leonardo, who was pleasant company at breakfast, and fellow Zealots Jeehoon, Ben, Dicky, Alexandra and Gary, Dennis & Didier. Traveling to the end of the world alone is not at all lonely when you meet old and new friends ;-).
Tokyo
Being in Tokyo was a great experience, if I hadn't been this jetlagged I would have probably seen and done more, but I still think I got a pretty good impression of this big city, that turned out not to be as big as I expected. I could mostly visit the things on my list on foot (after changing hotels a couple of times). A week is too short to truly explore all the ins and outs of a city, but that wasn't really the goal of the trip. The main goal was to see 6 shows of a musician I've been following for almost 50 years; Eddie Jobson and his band for this UK Revisited Tour (Marc Bonilla, Marco Minnemann and Mike Keneally) were great as always (yes, there were a few technical issues and some minor mistakes, but that's what makes a live show fun, I can have a perfect performance by playing a CD, but that's not why I visit a live show). I can dream the music by now, but it is still a pleasure to see it performed live. It was also a pleasure to be able to talk to the guys in the band at the convention; Eddie, Marco, Mike and loyal crew member Keith. My only complaint is, that it was too short!
Tracklist for the shows:
1. Alaska
2. Time to kill
3. Danger Money
4. Rendezvous 6.02
5. By the light of day-Presto Vivace
6. In the dead of night
7. Nevermore

10. The Only Thing She Needs **
11. The Sahara of snow (pt 2) *

** Extra drum solo by Marco @ the last show while the Mac was rebooted :-)
Yokohama
Unfortunately it rained (3D) cats & dogs on the day of the shows in Yokohama, I even paid extra to check in into the hotel early, waiting for another two hours was just too much. The view from my room was amazing though and the next day Nikki drove me to China Town where we had breakfast,so I was still able to see a little bit of the city.
Back to Tokyo
The last 2 shows took place at Billboard Live Tokyo again. So back to the REMM Roppongi, which might as well have been called the Severance Hotel, but it was very close to the Billboard and subway stations, so good enough I guess. If it only had more comfortable seats in the lobby, so you could sit more comfortably and relaxed while waiting to check in.
I definitely prefered the APA hotels (although I later heard that the owner of APA is notorious for his ultra-right views, I might go for a different hotel now).
The first show of these 2 was the best of 6 imho, maybe because I had the best seat in the venue.
There didn't seem to be a get together after the shows, at least it took a while before the band came out. It felt awkward hanging around the dressing room as a "fan-fan" waiting for the band to show up, so I decided to walk back to the hotel and figure out where to catch the metro the next morning. I then walked back to the Tokyo Midtown building, but it seemed deserted, so I decided to go to bed. Luckily, I ran into Eddie and Leonardo by the elevator and was able to say goodbye to them. It was actually fine, everyone was really tired, including myself, and I had to get up early to go to the airport anyway.
All in all a brilliant week, impressive and something to remember, I'm so glad I went. Would I do it again? Probably not, the flight was just too exhausting, I'm getting too old for this sh....
Last but not least... a huge thank you to Kaat, my sister, who drove me to and from the airport safely.
